Delhi Protests: The Union Home Ministry has extended the deployment of 273 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Delhi until October 31, amid the possibility of further protests in the national capital. According to government sources cited by news agency PTI on Friday, the forces were initially deployed earlier this month in view of demonstrations organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The latest extension marks the second time the deployment deadline has been extended. The decision comes as authorities remain alert to possible demonstrations at key locations across Delhi and seek to maintain law and order.
Home Ministry Approves Delhi Police Request
According to reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued instructions on October 22 for Delhi Police and the concerned CAPF units to coordinate the extended deployment. Delhi Police had reportedly approached the ministry seeking permission to retain the additional forces beyond the earlier deadline of October 20. The initial deployment followed concerns about protests planned for October 10. The ministry had approved a total of 301 CAPF companies in response to the police request, including 221 companies sought on October 6 and another 80 requested on October 8. The current extension specifically covers 273 companies, with authorities directing the relevant agencies to coordinate their deployment and duties.
Security Tightened at Key Locations
Delhi Police is reportedly preparing for the possibility of fresh demonstrations at locations including Jantar Mantar, the Election Commission, Parliament House and India Gate. The communication sent to the Home Ministry also highlighted concerns about possible protests outside ministers’ offices and residences. Authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance to respond to potential gatherings and prevent law-and-order disruptions. The extended deployment is intended to support Delhi Police in managing security arrangements and handling any emerging situation. Officials are expected to coordinate the movement and deployment of personnel according to the prevailing security requirements.
