Rahul Dravid’s younger son, Anvay Dravid, is making headlines with his outstanding performances in Under-19 cricket. The 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter delivered a stunning performance in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, smashing 151 runs off just 100 balls against Gujarat. His brilliant innings helped Karnataka Under-19 defeat Gujarat by five wickets and secure a place in the knockout stage. Known for his aggressive batting, Anvay is steadily building his own identity in the game.
Karnataka Faces a Huge Target
The match was played on Friday, October 16, at Vizzy Stadium in Vizianagaram. After losing the toss, Gujarat batted first and posted a massive total of 357 runs for four wickets in 50 overs. Under the VJD method, Karnataka received a revised target of 352 runs. Chasing such a big score was a major challenge, but Anvay remained calm and attacked the Gujarat bowlers. His innings changed the course of the match and kept Karnataka firmly in the contest.
Dhruv Krishna Joins the Run Fest
Anvay found an excellent partner in Dhruv Krishna, who also produced a remarkable century. The pair added 203 runs for the third wicket, putting Gujarat under tremendous pressure. Anvay smashed 20 fours and three sixes during his 151-run knock, while Dhruv scored 131 off 100 balls. Their powerful partnership brought Karnataka closer to the target and laid the foundation for a memorable victory. Both batters combined patience with aggressive stroke play to keep the required run rate under control.
Gujarat Batters Post a Massive Total
Earlier, Gujarat had put up a strong batting performance of their own. Sameer Bhandari remained unbeaten on 119 off 88 balls, while Yash Panjwani scored an unbeaten 106 from just 57 deliveries. Gujarat were struggling at 140 for four in 30.3 overs, but the two batters turned the innings around. They added an unbeaten 217 runs for the fifth wicket in just 19 overs, taking the team to 357. However, Anvay and Dhruv’s outstanding batting eventually overshadowed Gujarat’s huge total.
Anvay Continues His Impressive Form
The century against Gujarat was Anvay’s second hundred in the ongoing Vinoo Mankad Trophy season. Earlier, he smashed 104 runs off 62 balls against Chandigarh, helping Karnataka win by 100 runs. He also scored 85 off just 41 balls against Delhi. Karnataka posted a huge total of 418 for four in that match. These performances show that Anvay can score quickly and make a major impact in different match situations.
Experience With India’s Under-19 Team
Anvay has also represented India’s Under-19 team. During the youth ODI series in Sri Lanka in July, he scored 87 off 67 balls in the second match, hitting nine fours and a six. In September, he made 38 runs off just 18 balls in a rain-affected youth ODI against Australia, including three sixes and two fours. India won that match by seven runs. Anvay also captains Karnataka’s Under-19 side and takes on wicketkeeping duties. His latest innings could prove important as Karnataka prepares for the knockout stage.
