GST Collection October 2026 : The impact of heavy festive-season shopping is now visible in India’s GST collection figures. The country’s gross GST collection in October 2026 increased by 22.9% to ₹2,31,290 crore. This is the second-highest monthly collection recorded so far. Before this, GST collection had crossed the ₹2.10 lakh crore mark in 2024. In October 2025, the collection stood at ₹1,88,125 crore. This time, taxes collected from domestic purchases as well as imported goods played a major role in boosting government revenue.

Domestic Shopping Generates Over ₹1.59 Lakh Crore
In October, GST revenue from domestic economic activities and festive purchases increased by 15.8% to more than ₹1.59 lakh crore. Meanwhile, tax collection from imported goods recorded a significant jump of 42.2%. The government received ₹72,246 crore in GST from imports. According to figures released on Sunday, taxes collected from imports accounted for a substantial share of the total revenue. This indicates that government earnings increased through both domestic market activity and imports.

GST Collection Crosses ₹2 Lakh Crore For Fourth Time
The October GST collection crossing ₹2 lakh crore is particularly significant. This is the fourth time in the current financial year that the government has collected more than ₹2 lakh crore in a single month. Earlier, collections stood at ₹2.11 lakh crore in July and ₹2.04 lakh crore in September. These consistently high figures indicate an increase in economic activity and consumer spending across the country. October has now emerged as one of the strongest months for GST revenue in the current financial year.

Government Issues Refunds Worth ₹27,934 Crore
Tax refunds also increased in October. The government issued refunds worth a total of ₹27,934 crore during the month, which was 7.5% higher than the amount issued in the same period last year. The refunds were mainly provided to exporters and businesses whose input tax credit (ITC) had been pending. After refunds are issued, the government’s net GST collection is calculated separately. However, the reported gross collection for October remained above ₹2.31 lakh crore.

How Much GST Did Centre And States Receive?
Of the total GST collected in October, Central GST (CGST) accounted for ₹42,935 crore. The State GST (SGST) share stood at ₹51,340 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) contributed ₹1,37,015 crore, including ₹72,246 crore collected as tax on imports.
