FSSAI Complan Nestle Notice : Claims about increasing children’s height, improving memory and strengthening immunity have come under regulatory scrutiny in India. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to several companies, including Nestlé India and Zydus Wellness, which manufactures Complan. The regulator has asked the companies to provide scientific evidence supporting claims made about their products and in their advertisements. Certain infant nutrition products are also part of the investigation. The companies have been asked to explain why action should not be taken against them under food safety laws. At this stage, the matter involves seeking responses and evidence to substantiate the claims.
Why Have Complan’s Advertisements Come Under Question?
FSSAI has raised questions about several claims made in Complan advertisements, including “2X Faster Growth” and “Grow Taller, Faster.” These statements suggest faster physical development and increased height. The regulator has asked the company to provide scientific evidence supporting these claims. Claims that the product helps support memory and concentration are also being examined. Statements such as “Pro Immunity+ 34 Vital Nutrients” have also attracted scrutiny. Such claims can create expectations among parents about their children’s height, growth and development.
Nestlé Baby Food Products Also Under Investigation
The case also involves Nestlé India products such as Lactogen Pro 1 Powder and NAN Excella Pro Stage 1. FSSAI has sought evidence supporting claims that the whey protein in these products is easily digestible. A claim that NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 supports normal immunity through five types of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) is also under examination. The regulator wants to establish the scientific basis on which these claims have been presented to consumers. Products designed for infants must comply with the applicable regulations when making nutritional and health-related claims.
Abbott and Social Media Promotions Also Face Scrutiny
FSSAI’s action also includes cases involving Abbott Healthcare and other companies. In addition, social media influencer Ira Fatima has reportedly received a notice concerning an Instagram Reel promoting milk substitutes for infants. The investigation is not limited to information printed on product packaging; it also covers claims made in advertisements and online promotions. The companies and individuals concerned have been asked to explain the basis of their claims and whether they have complied with the relevant rules.
Can These Products Increase Children’s Height and Immunity?
Children’s height and physical development are influenced by several factors, including age, genetics, nutrition and overall health. Therefore, claims that a health drink can accelerate height growth or strengthen immunity need to be supported by scientific evidence. FSSAI is examining the basis of these claims. However, receiving a regulatory notice does not mean that a company has been found guilty of wrongdoing. The companies have been asked to respond, and it remains to be seen whether the claims comply with the applicable regulations.
What Should Parents Keep in Mind?
Parents should not rely solely on prominent advertising claims when buying milk powder, health drinks or other nutritional products for children. They should carefully check the recommended age, ingredients and instructions for use. Choosing products for young children, particularly infants, according to their age and nutritional needs is essential. Parents should consult a doctor when necessary. The action comes amid broader scrutiny of infant nutrition. FSSAI has also proposed a restriction on the separate addition of sucrose and fructose to foods intended for infants up to six months of age. These developments highlight the importance of carefully examining both children’s food products and the claims used to promote them.
