Social media influencer Aamir Shaukeen, also reported as Amir Shokeen, has been remanded to one day of police custody by Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court in connection with an alleged racial abuse case involving a young man from Tripura. The influencer was produced before the court on Friday, October 23, after his arrest by Delhi Police on Thursday. According to news agency ANI, police had sought six days of custody to question him about the incident. A video purportedly showing the alleged abuse circulated widely on social media, triggering public outrage and calls for action. A case has been registered at Sadar Bazar Police Station, while Tripura Police have also filed an FIR in connection with the matter.

Delhi Police Investigates Viral Video
Delhi Police reportedly took suo motu cognisance of the viral video and arrested Shaukeen on October 22. The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit is investigating the footage following communication from the Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER). Police sources said the video was allegedly recorded in Ahmedabad around a month ago. Investigators are examining the roles of approximately seven to eight people who may have been involved. The Tripura Students Forum Delhi (TSFD) has also submitted a complaint to the Joint Commissioner of Police (SPUNER), seeking an impartial investigation into the alleged racial abuse and humiliating treatment of the youth.

Political Leaders and Students Demand Action
The incident has drawn condemnation from Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Saha reportedly directed the Tripura Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police to ensure appropriate action. Rijiju also commented on the matter through a post on X, calling for action against those involved. Meanwhile, the Tripura Students Forum Delhi has urged investigators to preserve electronic evidence, including the original video recording, metadata, account details and upload history. These materials could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against the accused will be examined through the legal process.
