The death of 37-year-old Biru Singh Bhadauria in Kanpur has triggered serious questions about the police investigation. The case took a new turn after CCTV footage emerged showing Biru being carried on the roof of a car for around 1.5 kilometres before being thrown onto the road. Police initially registered a road accident case, but later accepted a complaint alleging murder and kidnapping after the family raised concerns. The police version of events has now become a major point of dispute.

Two Accused Arrested
Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal announced that car driver Pawan and his associate Dilip had been arrested in Fatehpur along with the Honda Amaze allegedly involved in the incident. Police are also searching for two other suspects, Pintu and Deepak. The arrests came after Biru’s family protested, alleging that the police were trying to present the incident as an accident rather than investigate it as a possible murder.

Police Explain How the Incident Happened
According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday night. Biru was allegedly intoxicated and was being taken home by his friend Vikram when he got off along the Arra route. Police claim that Pawan’s car, travelling at around 30–40 kilometres per hour, hit Biru, throwing him onto the bonnet and then the roof. The police version says the frightened driver accelerated instead of stopping.

What Happened During the 1.5-Kilometre Drive?
According to the police account, Dilip was sitting in the back of the car. He reportedly said Biru’s hand reached the window, prompting him to close it, trapping Biru’s fingers. The accused allegedly continued driving before throwing Biru onto the road around 1.5 kilometres later and fleeing. Police say Pawan and Dilip were subsequently arrested in Fatehpur.

Family Questions the Accident Theory
Biru’s family has questioned whether the sequence described by police is physically plausible. They have asked how a person hit at the stated speed could land on the roof on his back and reach the car window with both hands. They have also questioned the explanation about the window being closed. The family alleges that the incident was not a simple road accident and has accused police of failing to properly address the circumstances shown in the footage.

Old Dispute Adds Another Twist

Biru’s father, Ramshankar, has said that Biru previously had a dispute with Pawan and that Hanumant Vihar police had helped settle the matter. However, according to the report, senior officers did not mention any personal rivalry while presenting their account of the incident. The family had also blocked the Naubasta-Hamirpur Road in protest after finding the seized car damaged. With two suspects arrested and two others still being sought, questions remain over the conflicting accounts and the direction of the investigation.
