Netherlands AI Job Cuts: The Government of the Netherlands has made a very big decision regarding the increasing use of artificial intelligence. To make government operations better and more effective in the country, the government is planning to eliminate 25,000 government jobs in the coming days. The Netherlands government wants to save a hefty amount of approximately 5 billion US dollars (around 47,595 crore rupees) every year by cutting government jobs.
Phased Decision
According to information, the government will not eliminate 25,000 jobs all at once, but will gradually eliminate the jobs in multiple stages. The report states that the government provided information regarding this on October 26. At the beginning of the year 2027, the government will present a detailed outline of this entire plan.
Record Increase in the Number of Employees
By the end of the year 2025, the number of government employees in the Netherlands had reached up to 160,000, which is about 41 percent more compared to the year 2018. To comtrol this increasing figure, this step is being taken.
Which Departments Will Be Affected
The proposed layoff by the Netherlands government will not affect all departments equally. The report states that the police and defense (military) departments have been completely kept out of this cut. The maximun impact will fall in various ministries, monitoring agencies, and departments implementing government schemes, where AI technology will now be used to handle work instead of human.
