A shocking shooting in Punjab’s Amritsar district has left an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch’s family in mourning. Teerath Singh, the son of the village sarpanch in Chite Kalan, was shot dead on Monday evening. His friend, Ranjit Singh, was also injured in the attack and taken to hospital. Police have registered a case based on the family’s complaint and suspect that an old rivalry may have led to the killing. No arrests had been made at the time of the report.

Attack Near a Gurudwara

According to the police, Teerath Singh and his friend were returning home after paying their respects at a gurudwara when motorcycle-borne attackers opened fire near the religious site. The assailants reportedly fired at least eight rounds before fleeing. Hearing the gunshots, local residents rushed to the spot and found both men injured on the road. The sudden shooting created panic in the area, while police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Friend Injured, Condition Stable

Local residents took both victims to a hospital after the shooting. Doctors declared Teerath Singh dead, while Ranjit Singh received treatment for his injuries. According to the report, Ranjit’s condition was stable and he was out of danger. Police are examining the circumstances of the attack and gathering information that could help establish the motive and identify the people involved.

Drug-Related Argument May Be a Motive

Teerath Singh’s family reportedly told police that he had confronted the accused about drug use two days before the shooting. The disagreement allegedly led to a heated argument. Investigators are looking into whether this confrontation was connected to the killing. Police have also pointed to a possible rivalry involving Teerath’s brother, Karaj Singh. However, the exact motive remains under investigation, and officials are examining the different accounts surrounding the incident.

Three Men Named in the FIR

Based on the family’s complaint, police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) naming Gurdit Singh, Harkirat Singh, also known as Haki, and another man identified as Gora. All three are reportedly residents of the same village. Police suspect that the attack may have been linked to an existing dispute, but the investigation is still underway. Authorities are working to establish the sequence of events and locate the accused.

Political Family Under Shock

Teerath Singh’s mother is the village sarpanch and is associated with the Aam Aadmi Party. His brother, Karaj Singh, is also reportedly involved in AAP politics. The killing has therefore drawn attention to a politically connected family in the area. Police have confirmed that a case has been registered, but no arrests had been reported at the time of publication. Investigators are continuing efforts to trace the accused and determine the reason behind the shooting.
