Google is going to make a new and important update to its search engine. Now when you search for something on Google alongside the answers provided by AI, the links to those websites and news stories from where that information was taken will also be displayed more prominently. Please note that this step by Google is being considered a big relief for those news publishers and websites whose viewership was being affectes due to the arrival of AI search.

What is the new update?
Earlier, links to websites were found only at the end of the Ai generated answer. Now these links will bw visible more clearly and prominently within the lines and paragraphs of the answer as well. Apart from this, Google is now rolling out its link carousel feature worldwide. In this, links along with news headlines and photos will appear right below the AI Overview, so that users can read the complete news in a single click.

Priority to preferred websites
Google algorithim will now give more preference to articles from websites that users prefer to read. Apart from this, AI answers will also include social media posts and discussions from online forums.

Why did Google take this step?
A sharp decline in traffic visiting news and other content websites was recorded between July 2025 and July 2026. Keeping in mind the concerns and complaints of publishers, Google made this change to strike a balance between providing instant information and directing users to the original sources.

When did Google start AI Search features?
Google launched AI overviews in May 2024 and in March 2025 with AI mode users started getting direct answers to their questions right on the search page. As a result of this users were not clicking through to go inside any website.
