NMC Georgia MBBS Guidelines: Worrying news has emerged for Indian students dreaming of studying medicine (MBBS) abroad and their parents. A state of immense confusion has arisen among students due to the different statements and unclear stance of the National Medical Commission (NMC). Taking advantage of this confusion, alleged education consultants and agents are misleading students by providing them with incorrect information.

What is the Matter?
After pursuing MBBS from any foreign medical college outside India. It is mandatory for students to pass the FMGE to practice in India. Recently, two students asked an identical question on the Prime Minister’s grievance portal, will students be eligible to sit for the FMGE exam in India after completing a 6 year MBBS course from Georgia?

Citing the 2021 regulations, the NMC stated that a foreign degree would be valid only if the country grants the student a license to practice  independently immediately after completing the studies. The NMC then changed its stance and said that the condition of an independent license is being examined by an expert committee. When another student asked which of the two responses was correct, the Commission reiterated the old rule once again.

How Consultants are Misleading
Legal experts, say that taking addvantage of this ambiguity, agents earning high commissions are showing students the second response. Thay are assuring students that the condition regarding the independent license will soon be removed. Legal experts state that the NMC itself cannot amend the law alone. Falling for the false promises of agents, students are risking their precious time and lakhs of rupees.

Confusion Increased by Georgia's Rules as Well
The Georgia institution claims that its course complies with India’s regulations. However, their own rules state that international students studying there can only work as junior doctors under the supervision of a senior doctor and are not permitted independent practice. According to legal experts, the NMC rule is clear that obtaining an independent license in the country of study is mandatory. In such a scenario, this rule of Georgia could prove to be risky for Indian students.

What Demand is Being Raised?
Legal experts and lawyers have demanded that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the NMC  immediately issue a clear and official statement on this matter. An authentic list of foreign universities should be released that fully meet all of India's regulations and eligibility criteria, so that the future of students can be saved from being ruined.
