Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan has achieved a historic milestone in T20 International cricket, becoming the first bowler in the world to take 200 wickets in the format. He reached the landmark during the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Sharjah on October 29, 2026, when he dismissed Tadiwanashe Marumani. Afghanistan won the match by 19 runs and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Rashid Achieved the Milestone in His 120th Match

Rashid reached the landmark in his 120th T20 International appearance. He dismissed Zimbabwe batter Tadiwanashe Marumani, who scored just two runs, to complete his 200th wicket. Rashid made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in October 2015. In September 2025, he had already become the leading wicket-taker in the format after moving past New Zealand’s Tim Southee. The latest achievement has further strengthened his position at the top of the record list.

Adil Rashid Is Second on the List

England spinner Adil Rashid is currently second among the leading wicket-takers in men’s T20 International cricket, with 171 wickets. Rashid Khan now has a 29-wicket lead over him. The Afghanistan spinner has achieved the 200-wicket mark with an impressive record and remains one of the most successful bowlers in the shortest international format. His consistency over the years has made him a key player for Afghanistan.

Omarzai and Ijaz Create a Partnership Record

The match also produced another major record for Afghanistan. Azmatullah Omarzai and Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai added 142 runs for the sixth wicket, the highest partnership for that wicket in men’s T20I cricket. Omarzai scored a brilliant 116 off 50 balls, including 12 sixes and five fours, while Ijaz contributed 52 runs from 27 deliveries. Their partnership helped Afghanistan recover from an early collapse and post a strong total of 221 for seven.

Sikandar Raza’s Century Goes in Vain

Chasing 222 runs, Zimbabwe lost five wickets for just 82 runs and found themselves under pressure. Captain Sikandar Raza fought back with an unbeaten 106, while Tafadzwa Tsiga remained not out on 31. The pair added 120 runs for the sixth wicket, but their effort was not enough to take Zimbabwe across the finish line. The team managed 202 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by 19 runs.

Afghanistan Clinch the Series 2-0

With this victory, Afghanistan secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The win was made special by Rashid Khan’s historic 200-wicket achievement and the record-breaking partnership between Omarzai and Ijaz. Afghanistan will now look to carry this momentum into the third and final match. The team’s performance has once again highlighted its growing strength in T20 International cricket
