Diwali Muhurat Trading 2026 : Stock markets usually remain closed for regular trading on Diwali, but investors will get an opportunity to trade this year even though the festival falls on a Sunday. On November 8, 2026, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will conduct special Muhurat trading sessions on the occasion of Diwali. Investors will be able to buy and sell shares during a limited period. However, this will not be a regular trading day, as a separate schedule has been announced.

Trading To Begin At 2:20 PM
According to circulars issued by the NSE and BSE, Muhurat trading on Diwali will take place from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm. Before that, a pre-opening session will be held from 2:05 pm to 2:20 pm. This means investors will get a total of 70 minutes for trading-related activities. Despite it being a Sunday, transactions will be permitted during this special session.

Commodity Market Investors Also Get Opportunity
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has also announced its schedule for Muhurat trading. A special session will take place from 2:05 pm to 2:19 pm, followed by the regular Muhurat trading session from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm. According to the exchange, all commodity and index contracts will be available for trading during this period. This will allow commodity market investors to participate in the traditional Diwali trading session alongside equity investors.

Separate Timings For IPOs And Newly Listed Shares
The BSE has made separate arrangements for IPOs and securities being relisted. Orders for these securities can be placed from 2:05 pm to 2:50 pm. Order matching will take place from 2:50 pm to 3:05 pm. Trading in these securities will then be permitted from 3:05 pm to 3:30 pm. Investors should therefore check the relevant schedule before placing orders in these securities.

Why Muhurat Trading Holds Special Significance
Muhurat trading is a long-standing tradition in the Indian stock market. Diwali is considered a symbol of a new financial beginning and prosperity. Following this belief, many investors purchase shares during the auspicious period to mark the beginning of the new Samvat year. However, this tradition does not guarantee profits from shares purchased during the session. Market risks remain present at all times.

Investors Should Exercise Caution During Limited Trading Hours
During Muhurat trading, transactions will be available across segments such as equities, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, futures and options, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB). Since the trading window will be limited, share prices may fluctuate. Investors should avoid making hurried purchases and take decisions based on their investment objectives and risk appetite.
