The BJP has raised concerns over the voter list ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. During the party’s state executive committee meeting in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted figures related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. According to him, around 13 crore names remain on the state's voter list after the revision, while the names of nearly 1.27 crore Hindu voters are missing. He urged party leaders and workers to take the issue seriously and work to ensure that eligible voters are included.
28 Urban Seats Could Be at Risk
Yogi Adityanath warned that the BJP could face difficulties on 28 urban Assembly seats if the missing names are not added to the voter list. He also identified 43 constituencies where the electoral contest could be very close. According to the Chief Minister, these figures could affect the party's electoral prospects in 2027. He asked party workers, leaders and MLAs to focus on identifying voters whose names are missing and helping them get registered.
Panchayat Voter List and Assembly List Mismatch
The Chief Minister also shared details about different categories of people whose names are missing from the Assembly voter list. He claimed that around 66 lakh people have their names in the panchayat voter list but not in the Assembly electoral roll. Another 55 lakh people who receive benefits under government schemes were also mentioned as missing from the voter list. In addition, Yogi referred to around 4.5 lakh young people who have completed or are approaching the eligible voting age but are not included in the list.
Workers Asked to Use Kamal Saathi App
Yogi Adityanath directed party workers to launch a campaign to identify missing voters and help them get their names added. He asked them to use the Kamal Saathi app for this exercise. According to the Chief Minister, the app contains the relevant list, which workers can use to reach out to people whose names are missing. The party is preparing to verify voter details before and after the draft electoral roll is released.
Draft Voter List Expected on November 12
The meeting also discussed the schedule for the next stage of the voter list revision. The draft electoral roll is expected to be published on November 12. This will give political parties and voters an opportunity to check the entries and seek corrections where required. The BJP wants its workers to remain active during this period so that eligible voters are not left out of the final list.
Yogi Questions Addition of Only Four Lakh Names
The Chief Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the previous campaign. He said that only around four lakh names were added during the exercise, despite his concern about nearly 1.27 crore missing names. Yogi described the slow progress as negligence and warned party workers against repeating the same mistake. He also accused those creating fake voter entries of pushing a misleading narrative, while asserting that the BJP was working honestly. He stressed that efforts must be made to ensure eligible voters are included in the electoral roll.
