South Andaman Weather System : The weather threat over the Bay of Bengal is not over yet. Cyclone Arnab has weakened into a depression, but a new weather system has developed over the South Andaman Sea. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system could intensify over the next 48 hours. Its development may worsen weather conditions over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and areas around the Andaman Sea. While Arnab’s weakening has raised hopes of relief, the new system has increased concerns for meteorologists. The next two days are therefore considered important for weather monitoring.

Cyclone Arnab Has Weakened into a Depression
According to the IMD update dated October 29, extremely severe cyclonic storm Arnab has weakened into a depression. Its centre is located over southern Chhattisgarh and adjoining southern Odisha. The weather department placed its centre approximately 20 kilometres west of Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh. The system is expected to continue moving northwards and may weaken further into a low-pressure area by the evening of October 29. This indicates that Arnab is steadily losing strength. However, reports had earlier indicated that the cyclone caused damage across several areas.

Weather Radars Continue Monitoring the System
The weather department is continuously monitoring the weakening Cyclone Arnab. Weather radars in Raipur and Sambalpur are being used for this purpose. According to the IMD, the system is expected to lose further strength as it moves forward. Meanwhile, a new weather system has developed over the South Andaman Sea. This could increase weather activity over the Bay of Bengal and surrounding maritime regions. Meteorologists are also tracking changes in the new system’s direction and intensity.

New Weather System Develops Over South Andaman Sea
A low-pressure area has formed over the South Andaman Sea under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation. According to the weather department, the system may move west-northwestwards over the next 24 hours. It could become more organised afterwards. Forecasts suggest that it may develop into a depression over the southeastern Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. If the system intensifies, the weather department will continue monitoring its projected path and potential impacts. Changes in its direction and strength will be particularly important.

Cyclone Arnab Causes Extensive Damage in Andhra Pradesh
Cyclone Arnab caused significant damage in Andhra Pradesh and nearby coastal areas. According to reports, at least five people died and 31 houses were damaged due to the storm. Heavy rain and strong winds brought down trees and electricity poles in several locations. Agriculture was also affected, with reports indicating that approximately 79,000 acres of crops suffered damage. Although the cyclone has weakened, the destruction it caused has increased the difficulties faced by people in affected areas.

Next 48 Hours Crucial for Weather Developments
As Arnab weakens, the emergence of a new system over the South Andaman Sea has prompted closer weather monitoring. According to the IMD’s assessment, the new system could intensify further over the next 24 to 48 hours. However, its projected direction and potential impacts may change as it develops. Weather activity over the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea is being closely monitored. The main question is whether the new system will develop into a cyclone or weaken before doing so. Updates on its development over the coming days will be important.
