2-year service extension will be given
75 percent of Agniveers completing their initial four-year of service will now be given a 2-year service extension instead of being directly discharged. After the completion of this two-year extension, those Agniveers who are interested in remaining in the army will be re-evaluated and will be permanently inducted into the defence forces under a set selection process.
Agnipath Scheme launched in 2022
Under the Agnipath scheme launched in June 2022, the first batch is about to complete 4 years. The Performance evaluations received from the ground level and military commanders found the work of the 'Agniveers' has been highly positive and commendable. As you know, 25% of the Agniveers are to be inducted into the regular army based on merit. For the remaining 75%, the provision is that they will return to society as disciplined and motivated young individuals.
However, under this updated scheme, the remaining 75% of Agniveers will now be given an additional two-year tenure. Upon completion of this two-year period, those who are interested will be inducted into the armed forces based on a defined selection process.
Confidence will increase among youth
Let it be known that when the Agnipath scheme started, there was a massive uproar over the 4-year job. Young people in several states, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, staged intense protests. However, the situation gradually returned to normal. This decision will further strengthen the scheme's acceptance among the youth and bolster their trust in the armed forces.
