Azam Khan Bail News : Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah Azam Khan, have received relief from the Allahabad High Court in the two-PAN-card case. The court granted their bail applications and ordered the suspension of their sentences. However, their request for a stay on their convictions was rejected. A single-judge bench of Justice Samit Gopal delivered the decision on their petitions. Their release from prison will also depend on the status of other cases against them.
Challenge Filed Against Trial Court Verdict
Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam had filed criminal revision petitions before the Allahabad High Court challenging the trial court’s verdict. In their petitions, they sought a stay on their convictions, suspension of their sentences and release on interim bail. After hearing the matter on October 15, the High Court reserved its judgment.
Bail Granted but Convictions Remain in Force
The High Court granted bail to both men and ordered the suspension of their sentences. However, it declined to grant a stay on their convictions. This means they have received bail relief in this particular case, but the trial court’s verdict finding them guilty remains in force because the conviction itself has not been stayed.
Case Linked to Possession of Two PAN Cards
The case concerns Azam Khan and his son allegedly possessing two PAN cards. Both approached the High Court to challenge the trial court’s decision in the matter. The latest order provides them with legal relief in this case, but it should not be interpreted as relief in all the other cases against them.
ED Action Against Jauhar University
Another case involving Azam Khan concerns Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had attached land and buildings associated with the university under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. This action is separate from the two-PAN-card case.
Will Azam Khan Be Released from Prison?
Following the High Court’s decision to grant bail, questions have arisen about whether Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam can now be released from prison. However, their release will depend on other pending cases against them and any applicable legal restrictions. For now, the court has granted bail and suspended their sentences in the two-PAN-card case, but it has refused to stay their convictions.
