Delhi Police Transfer Controversy : Discontent has reportedly emerged within the Delhi Police over the transfer of two officers. Following an alleged assault on a lawyer at Shahdara police station, the ACP and SHO were transferred. Now, some Delhi Police personnel are reportedly preparing to hold a protest in support of these officers. Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has decided to interact with police personnel. The interaction programme will be held on November 3 at Utsav Sadan in Kingsway Camp. Police personnel ranging from constables to inspectors will participate in the event.

Controversy Begins After Transfer of Officers
The entire matter is linked to an incident that took place at Shahdara police station on October 23. It is alleged that a lawyer suffered a serious head injury during a dispute at the police station. Following the incident, ACP Manasvi Vashisht, posted in the Gandhi Nagar subdivision, and Shahdara SHO Inspector Arun Kumar were transferred. In protest against the incident, lawyers from district courts had launched an indefinite strike. They demanded action against the police officers concerned. After transfer orders for both officers were issued on October 28, the lawyers called off their strike.

WhatsApp Messages Appeal for Police Gathering
Following the officers' transfers, messages began circulating in Delhi Police WhatsApp groups. These messages appealed to police personnel to gather outside the Police Headquarters at 8 AM on November 2. The stated objective was to express support for both officers and demand the restoration of their previous postings. In a video that surfaced on October 31, ACP Manasvi Vashisht thanked him colleagues and referred to the proposed gathering. However, noting that he was a member of a disciplined force, he suggested choosing an open dialogue with the Police Commissioner instead of holding a protest.

Full Preparations for Lieutenant Governor’s Programme
According to a Delhi Police circular, the Lieutenant Governor’s interaction programme will begin at 4 PM on November 3. All districts and traffic units have been directed to nominate 20 police personnel each. These will include three inspectors, seven upper subordinate-level personnel and 10 lower subordinate-level personnel. All selected personnel will then have to report to Utsav Sadan by 2 PM on November 3. Senior police officials will also attend the programme, including Special Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and DCPs of the concerned districts. The meeting is being viewed as an important opportunity for dialogue amid growing discontent among police personnel and the ongoing transfer controversy.
