A major robbery has been reported in Delhi’s Lahori Gate area, where four armed men allegedly entered a businessman’s office and escaped with ₹2.30 crore in cash. The incident took place on Wednesday morning in the busy Old Delhi locality ahead of the Diwali festive season. According to the report, the suspects threatened employees at gunpoint, confined them inside the office and collected the cash before fleeing. Police teams have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage to identify and trace the suspects.
Armed Suspects Enter Office in the Morning
According to the available information, the incident occurred at around 10 AM in a multi-storey building near Church Mission Police Post, within the Lahori Gate police station area. The office belongs to a businessman identified as Vishnu Kanti and is reportedly involved in substantial daily cash transactions. The four suspects reached the third floor, threatened the employees with firearms and held them at gunpoint. They then allegedly collected approximately ₹2.30 crore in cash, placed it in bags and left the premises.
CCTV Footage Traces the Suspects’ Escape Route
Police began examining CCTV recordings after receiving information about the robbery. According to the report, footage showed the suspects moving through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk towards Old Delhi Railway Station. They allegedly walked to a car parked near the station entrance and used it to escape. Investigators are analysing the recordings and other available evidence to establish the identities of those involved and determine their movements before and after the crime.
Possible Insider Involvement Under Investigation
The circumstances of the robbery have raised questions about whether the suspects had prior information about the office and its cash holdings. Local traders and security personnel reportedly suspect that someone familiar with the premises may have provided information about the location, the employees and the timing of the cash transactions. A security guard at the building said his shift began at 11 AM, while the robbery reportedly took place around 10 AM. Investigators will need to establish whether the timing was deliberately chosen and whether anyone inside the business shared information with the suspects.
Police Launch Search as Traders Express Concern
The robbery has caused concern among traders in the Old Delhi wholesale market, particularly with the festive season underway. Police have registered a case and deployed teams from the Special Staff and Crime Branch to investigate the incident. CCTV footage is being examined as part of the search for the suspects. At the time of the report, the accused had not been arrested.
Investigation Continues
Police are working to establish the complete sequence of events, identify all those involved and trace the stolen cash. The investigation will also examine the suspects’ escape vehicle and whether they received assistance from anyone else. Further details are expected as investigators analyse the evidence and pursue leads in the case.
