Police in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district have made a major breakthrough in the murder case of Gayadeen Ahirwar, president of the Kalpi Bar Association. The lawyer was allegedly kidnapped and murdered, following which police launched a search operation. After receiving information about the kidnapping on October 31, four special teams comprising SWAT, surveillance, SOG and local police personnel were formed. On November 1, police arrested three accused from Kanpur. Acting on their information, the police also recovered the victim's body and the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
Encounter During Evidence Recovery
After the arrests, the accused told police that the car used in the crime had been hidden in a forest area under Kalpi police station limits. A police team led by the Kalpi SHO and SOG personnel took them to the location to recover the vehicle. During the operation, the accused allegedly tried to mislead the police team and opened fire using a country-made pistol hidden in nearby bushes. They fired two rounds at the police personnel, triggering an exchange of fire.
Two Accused Shot in the Legs
Police retaliated in self-defence and fired six rounds during the encounter. Two accused, identified as Ashish Vishwakarma and Sarvesh Shukla, sustained bullet injuries to their legs. Both were immediately taken to a hospital under police custody, where they are receiving medical treatment. The police said the injured accused were unable to escape after the retaliatory firing.
Third Accused Caught During Police Operation
While the firing was taking place, the third accused allegedly tried to flee from the spot. However, police personnel surrounded the area and managed to arrest him. All three accused, who were earlier arrested from Kanpur, are now in police custody. The recovery of the victim's body and the weapon, along with the encounter during the vehicle recovery operation, has added important developments to the investigation.
Additional SP Confirms Details of the Encounter
Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Ishaan Soni said police received information about the kidnapping of Bar Association president Gayadeen Ahirwar on October 31, 2026. Four special teams were formed immediately to trace the victim and identify those involved. He said the police operation led to the arrest of three accused in Kanpur and the recovery of key evidence. Police have registered a case under relevant legal provisions at Kalpi police station.
Police Investigating Motive and Criminal Background
Police are now investigating the main motive behind the murder and checking the criminal records of the arrested accused. Investigators are also trying to identify other people who may have been involved in the crime. Police said further action would be taken based on the investigation. The case has drawn attention in the legal community because the victim was the president of the Kalpi Bar Association.
