Kartik Yadav is making headlines in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 with his outstanding bowling performances. The 20-year-old Uttar Pradesh cricketer has taken 27 wickets in just four matches and is currently leading the wicket-takers' list. His journey is particularly inspiring because cricket was not always considered the right career choice for him. Once labelled unsuccessful, Kartik is now turning his passion into a promising cricket career.
27 Wickets in Seven Innings
Kartik has taken 27 wickets in seven innings across four matches this Ranji season. He has claimed five or more wickets in an innings three times. He picked up six wickets against Bihar, followed by five-wicket performances against Goa and Baroda. He also took four wickets in another innings. These consistent performances have made him the leading wicket-taker of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season.
Bowled Virat Kohli in the Nets
Kartik first attracted attention around two years ago when he bowled Virat Kohli during a practice session in Kanpur. It happened before India's Test match against Bangladesh, when Kartik was present as a net bowler. During an interview with ESPNcricinfo at the UPT20 League, Kartik recalled the moment and said he did not know whether Kohli remembered that delivery, but it would remain a lifetime memory for him.
Ravindra Jadeja Is His Role Model
Kartik considers Ravindra Jadeja his cricketing inspiration and wants to become an equally capable all-rounder. However, when it comes to attitude on the field, he admires Hardik Pandya. He wants to play with the same confidence and belief that he is the best. His ambition is to develop into a player who can contribute with both bat and ball.
Father Wanted Him to Study
Kartik comes from a disciplined family. His father serves in the Central Reserve Police Force, while his elder brother is on the path to becoming a doctor. His father initially wanted him to focus on education rather than pursue cricket professionally. However, after seeing his son's passion and dedication towards the game, he decided to support his cricketing dream.
A Promising Career Ahead
Kartik made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh last year against Tamil Nadu and immediately impressed by taking five wickets. That performance was an early sign of his potential. Now, his 27 wickets in the ongoing Ranji season have brought him into the spotlight. At just 20, he is showing that determination and family support can help turn a childhood passion into a serious career.
