Meerut: Muskan Rastogi, who was sentenced to death in the Saurabh Rajput murder case, may not be executed for at least six years, according to a government prosecutor. Advocate K.K. Chaubey said Muskan gave birth to her younger daughter, Radha, on November 24, 2025, while in jail. He said the child’s age and any specific directions in the court’s judgment would be important in determining the next steps.
According to Chaubey, Muskan may be shifted with her daughter to Nari Niketan in Lucknow following the sentencing. However, the certified copy of the judgment has not yet been received, and the legal position will be examined once it becomes available. The death sentence will also be subject to the applicable legal procedures and review by higher courts.
Saurabh’s Mother Refuses to Adopt Muskan’s Younger Daughter
Renu Devi, Saurabh Rajput’s mother, said she did not wish to adopt or raise Muskan’s younger daughter, Radha. She added that even if the family faced pressure to undergo a DNA test, they would not agree to it, saying their primary demand had been justice.
Her latest statement marks a change from November 2025, when Radha was born. At that time, Renu Devi had reportedly sought a DNA test and said the family would consider raising the child if the test established that Saurabh was her father.
Muskan’s Parents Also Refuse to Accept the Child
Muskan’s parents, Pramod Rastogi and Kavita, reportedly sent a letter to the court through the police on October 14. In the letter, they stated that they would no longer meet Muskan and did not wish to take responsibility for her younger daughter, regardless of the punishment awarded to her.
The letter reportedly reached the court before the sentencing decision was announced.
Saurabh’s Family Seeks Custody of Elder Daughter Pihu
Saurabh’s brother, Rahul, said the family had sought custody of Pihu, Saurabh’s elder daughter, but her maternal grandparents were not willing to hand her over.
Rahul said the family had not seen Pihu for a long time and did not know how she was doing. He added that Saurabh had wanted to send Pihu to London for her education.
Jail Arrangements to Change After Death Sentence
Following the death sentences, Meerut District Jail authorities have begun reviewing arrangements for Muskan and Sahil Shukla. A meeting was reportedly held after the verdict, and both convicts are expected to be shifted to special barracks within 24 hours.
Muskan was previously housed in barrack 12-B, while Sahil was lodged in barrack 15. According to senior jail superintendent Dr. Viresh Raj Sharma, their clothing and other arrangements will be changed once the written judgment is received.
Muskan is expected to wear a cream-coloured sari or suit, while Sahil will wear a white kurta-pyjama. Their prisoner numbers are also expected to be allotted shortly.
The death sentences remain subject to the legal process, including proceedings before the higher courts. The final outcome will depend on the applicable judicial procedures and subsequent decisions.
