Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has highlighted changes in the state’s sports sector, citing the ‘Medal Wins, Get a Job’ policy, improved sports infrastructure and financial rewards for athletes. On the occasion of Sharadiya Navratri’s sixth day, the Chief Minister also extended greetings to the people and described Goddess Katyayani as a symbol of women’s courage, determination and strength. In a post on social media platform X, he outlined the government’s initiatives to encourage young athletes, particularly women, and provide them with opportunities to pursue sports professionally.

CM Yogi Highlights Changes Since 2017
Referring to the period before 2017, Yogi Adityanath claimed that fear, law-and-order problems and a lack of resources had restricted opportunities for girls in Uttar Pradesh. He said that sports facilities were inadequate and talented players often struggled to find the support needed to develop their abilities. The Chief Minister stated that the situation had changed over the past nine and a half years, with greater emphasis on security, encouragement and the expansion of sports infrastructure. According to him, facilities ranging from village playgrounds and block-level mini stadiums to district stadiums and divisional sports colleges are helping athletes improve their performance. He also highlighted the establishment of the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut as part of the state’s sports development efforts.

Direct Recruitment and Rewards for Medal Winners
The Chief Minister said that athletes winning medals at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are eligible for substantial financial rewards. He also highlighted direct recruitment opportunities under the ‘Medal Wins, Get a Job’ policy, which aims to provide eligible sportspersons with government employment in recognition of their achievements. Yogi Adityanath said these measures are intended to encourage sporting talent, recognise achievements and provide athletes with greater career security. He cited several players who have represented India at international competitions, including athletes Parul Chaudhary, Priyanka Goswami, Prachi Chaudhary and Annu Rani; judoka Asmita Dey; cricketers Deepti Sharma and Meghna Singh; hockey player Vandana Katariya; and wrestler Divya Kakran. Their performances at major sporting events, he said, have brought recognition to the country and Uttar Pradesh. The government’s stated focus remains on strengthening sports facilities, supporting athletes and creating more opportunities for young people to compete at national and international levels.
