The Delhi Police have arrested a 23-year-old UPSC aspirant from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly making a fake bomb threat call claiming that a Lahore-based organisation was planning explosions in Delhi. The threat, which created concern among students in the national capital, was later found to be a hoax, police confirmed on Friday. The accused, identified as Suraj Verma, was arrested from Kanpur within 48 hours of the complaint. According to investigators, he allegedly made the call as a prank targeting his former roommate.

Threatening Call Received in Mukherjee Nagar
The incident took place on the night of October 27, when a resident of Indra Vikas Colony in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar received a threatening call from an unknown landline number. The caller allegedly claimed that a Pakistan-based organisation in Lahore had been monitoring students and had selected them to carry out bomb blasts in Delhi. The caller also reportedly made objectionable political remarks before disconnecting. Alarmed by the threat, the students immediately contacted the police through the 112 emergency helpline. A case was subsequently registered at Mukherjee Nagar Police Station on October 29.

Police Traced the Call to KanpurDuring the investigation, police examined technical evidence and telecommunications records to identify the source of the call. The investigation led them to a landline number in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. A police team travelled to the city and, with assistance from local police, apprehended the suspect. He was identified as Suraj Verma, a 23-year-old UPSC aspirant from Auraiya district. Police discovered that he had previously lived in the same accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar as the complainant and another student, Rohit Kumar.

Accused Allegedly Changed His Voice to Mislead Students
According to the police, Verma allegedly used a landline phone installed at a relative's residence and altered his voice to make the call appear to have originated from someone associated with a Pakistan-based organisation. Investigators suspect that the alleged prank was specifically intended to frighten his former roommate. Police have confirmed that the claimed Lahore-based terror connection was fabricated. Further investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
