Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress during a programme in Kanpur, accusing opposition leaders of being sympathetic towards infiltrators. Taking a dig at political opponents, he remarked that the country has “two miyas”—one small and the other big—who, according to him, have a strong affection for infiltrators. The Chief Minister also criticised previous governments over development, employment and law and order, alleging that their policies had hindered the state’s progress. His remarks come amid continuing political exchanges between the ruling party and opposition groups in Uttar Pradesh.
₹411 Crore Worth of Development Projects Inaugurated
Yogi Adityanath visited Bithoor in Kanpur on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, where he offered prayers at the Valmiki Ashram. He subsequently attended a programme at Nana Rao Peshwa Park and inaugurated development projects worth ₹411 crore. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of preserving the state’s historical, religious and cultural heritage alongside infrastructure development. He said his government was working to improve public facilities and strengthen the infrastructure of places associated with India’s history and traditions. The event also provided a platform for the Chief Minister to outline his government’s development priorities while criticising the performance of previous administrations.
Ayodhya and Kashi Cited as Examples of Development
Referring to religious destinations, the Chief Minister highlighted development initiatives in Ayodhya and Varanasi. He alleged that Ayodhya had previously faced shortcomings in electricity supply, sanitation and other basic amenities. Yogi credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the expansion of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, saying the project had improved facilities for devotees. He also mentioned development work in Mathura, Vrindavan and Prayagraj, stressing the importance of upgrading infrastructure at major pilgrimage centres. According to the Chief Minister, religious tourism and improved civic amenities were important components of the state’s broader development agenda.
Opposition Attacked Over Past Incidents and Governance
The Chief Minister also referred to the Muzaffarnagar riots, the Kosi Kalan incident and the Jawahar Bagh episode in Mathura while questioning the SP’s record on law and order. He alleged that people had faced insecurity and administrative failures during earlier governments. Targeting SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, Yogi argued that political legacy alone could not guarantee repeated electoral victories. He further accused the opposition of neglecting farmers, young people, economically weaker sections and women’s safety. His allegations formed part of a broader political attack on the SP and Congress, particularly over infiltration and governance. Any response from the opposition would be important to the continuing political debate surrounding the Chief Minister’s remarks.
