Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp attack on the Congress and Samajwadi Party during the 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' foot march in Gorakhpur. Accusing both opposition parties of questioning India and its Constitution, Yogi said attempts to weaken constitutional institutions that strengthen the country's democracy cannot be accepted. His remarks came amid intensifying political exchanges ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He also criticised opposition leaders over their political statements and questioned their electoral performance.
Yogi Advises Akhilesh Yadav to Understand the Meaning of Democracy
Taking a swipe at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister said democracy is not about taking revenge but about bringing change through the people's mandate. Referring to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Yogi said voters had exercised their democratic rights to bring about a change in government. He maintained that political power ultimately rests with the people and that electoral outcomes reflect their decisions.
Cites Election Results to Target SP and Congress
Yogi Adityanath referred to the 2017 and 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections while criticising the SP and Congress. He claimed that even together, the two parties could not secure as many seats as the BJP won independently in the 2022 elections. The Chief Minister pointed out that the BJP had won 255 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh in 2022. He said voters decide which political party deserves to form the government and which one should be rejected.
Congress' Electoral Performance Also Comes Under Fire
The Chief Minister also referred to Congress's performance in the 2023 Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He criticised the party over its electoral setbacks and commented on the performance of Congress and the INDIA bloc in Maharashtra. Yogi also mentioned the BJP forming the government in Delhi in 2025 and referred to the BJP-led government in Bihar while highlighting the party's electoral performance in different states.
Yogi Takes a Dig at Rahul Gandhi
Yogi Adityanath also targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning how many times the party would attempt to launch him politically. He alleged that Congress continued to look for excuses instead of accepting responsibility for its electoral setbacks. The Chief Minister's remarks reflect the growing political confrontation between the BJP and opposition parties as preparations and campaigning for the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections gain momentum.
