Now relief is in sight from fake calls coming from unknown numbers and online fraud. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered all telecom companies-Jio, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea and BSNL to implement the CNAP (Caller Name Presentation) system from November 1. After this new rule comes into force when a call arrives from an unknown number the real name of the individual or company based on the KYC submitted while purchasing the SIM card will be displayed on the mobile screen along with the number.
Will be implemented from November 1
To prevent the daily increasing spam calls and online fraud incidents, the Department of Telecommunications and TRAI were working on this new technology for a long time. Now the government has instructed all telecome operators to fully implement this caller ID system by November 1. For this companies like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have already completed successful trials in various telecome circles.
Need for Truecaller will end
Until Now, third part apps like Truecaller had to be used to identify a caller. These apps work on crowd sourced data, meaning whatever name people save a number as on their phone or whatever the user writes in their profile is displayed to others. Because of this fradausters easily change their names and pretend to be bank officials and police personnel.
No need for Internet and App
The new government system will be completely based on the telecom database and official identify. This facility will be provided directly through the telecom network. For this there will be no need to keep internet or mobile data turned on in the phone, nor will any app need to be downloaded.
Curb on Cyber Fraud
With the arrival of this rule cyber fraud will also be cubed. Earlier people used to intimidate and defraud people by posing as fake officials, custom officers, or bank employees. but with the implementation of this rule the identity of fraudsters will be revealed before even answeing the phone.
Who will get an exemption
Only the names of those individuals who have availed the facility to keep their identity confidential (CLIR) under government permission will not appear on the screen. For all other users it will work by default.
