DA Hike July 2026 : Central government employees and pensioners are waiting for an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR), effective from July 2026. With no government announcement by the final week of October, expectations among employees have grown. Attention has now turned to a possible Cabinet meeting scheduled for October 28. However, there has been no official confirmation that the DA hike will be announced on that date. Therefore, the possibility of an increase before Diwali should still be treated as speculation.

Decision on Dearness Allowance Has Been Delayed
Employees had initially expected the DA hike to be announced in early October. Subsequently, discussions focused on the Cabinet meetings scheduled for October 6 and 14, but according to the available information, no announcement regarding DA was made at those meetings. On October 16, the central government announced a non-performance-linked bonus, while the wait for the DA revision continued. The January 2026 DA revision had also reportedly been delayed. According to the information provided, the government increased DA from 58% to 60% on April 18.

DA Increase of 3% to 4% Expected
The potential DA revision for July 2026 is assessed using the average inflation figures from July 2025 to June 2026 and the prescribed calculation formula. According to available estimates, the DA rate could increase by 3% to 4% this time. If the increase is 4%, the current rate of 60% would rise to 64%. However, this remains an estimate. The actual increase will become clear only after the government makes an official announcement.

Monthly Salary Increase Depends on Basic Pay
An increase in DA directly affects employees’ monthly earnings. For example, if an employee has a basic salary of ₹18,000, a 2% increase in DA would provide an additional ₹360 per month, while a 3% increase would add ₹540. Similarly, an employee with a basic salary of ₹29,200 would receive an additional ₹876 per month if DA increased by 3%. If DA rises from 60% to 64%, the additional monthly amount for this basic salary would be ₹1,168. The actual benefit will depend on the employee’s basic salary and the revised DA rate.

Employees May Receive Arrears From July
The central government generally revises DA and DR rates twice a year. These revisions take effect from January and July, although the announcements may come later. If the increase effective from July 2026 is announced after a delay, eligible employees and pensioners may receive arrears covering the applicable difference from July onwards. However, the arrears period and payment conditions will be determined by the official government order. DA helps employees manage the impact of inflation, while pensioners receive the corresponding benefit as DR. For now, everyone is awaiting the government’s next official announcement.
