Local Toll Pass 2026 : There is welcome news for people who frequently travel on national highways and live near toll plazas. The government is set to introduce a local toll pass facility from November 1, 2026. Under this scheme, eligible private vehicle owners will be able to obtain a one-year pass by paying ₹1,500. However, this facility will not be available to all motorists. Applicants must live within a 20-kilometre radius of a toll plaza and meet the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Difference Between Local Pass and FASTag Pass
The new local toll pass will be different from the existing FASTag annual pass, which costs ₹3,075. The regular annual pass allows motorists to cross toll plazas up to 200 times in a year and is available to eligible vehicle owners subject to separate conditions. In comparison, the ₹1,500 local pass is specifically designed for people living near toll plazas. Its purpose is to provide relief to those who need to cross the same toll plaza daily or frequently.

Residents Within 20 Kilometres Can Benefit
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, eligible owners of non-commercial vehicles living within a 20-kilometre radius of a toll plaza will be able to benefit from the local pass. A valid and active FASTag on the vehicle is mandatory. The pass cannot be used freely at any toll plaza. It will be issued only for the specific toll plaza selected during the application process. Therefore, applicants should check the eligibility of their nearby toll plaza before applying.

How to Apply Through Rajmargyatra App
Applications for the local toll pass can be submitted online. Follow these steps:

1. First, download the Rajmargyatra app on your mobile phone.
2. Log in using your mobile number.
3. Select the Local Pass option available on the homepage.
4. Use your Aadhaar-linked DigiLocker account for verification.
5. Enter your vehicle registration number and other required details.
6. Select the relevant toll plaza and complete the verification process.
7. Pay the prescribed fee online.

The vehicle's FASTag must be valid and active to apply. Additionally, the name recorded on the vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) must match the name on the Aadhaar card. The pass will be issued after successful verification and payment.

Different Fees for Urban and Rural Toll Plazas
The price of the local toll pass will vary depending on the location of the toll plaza. For toll plazas situated outside municipal or urban limits, the one-year pass will cost ₹1,500. However, motorists will have to pay ₹3,000 for toll plazas located within municipal or urban boundaries. The government may review these charges every year in April. Therefore, applicants should check the applicable fee for their respective toll plaza before applying.

Highways and Toll Plazas Where Benefits Are Unavailable
The local pass will not be valid on every national highway and expressway. It will not be available on highways and expressways operating under the closed user fee collection system. Additionally, the facility will not apply at toll plazas where a service road or another alternative route is available for commuters. Therefore, before applying, it is important to confirm whether your toll plaza falls under the scheme.
